I confess: I'm one of those annoying people who goes around correcting other people's grammar. If I see a typo or spelling mistake in the newspaper, I break out in hives and reach for my red pen. I should also add that I won all three rounds of my 5th-grade spelling bee (and all I got was a lousy set of Crayola markers).
Yes, I'm a proud, card-carrying member of the Grammar Police. This membership serves me well when it comes to being a professional copy editor / proofreader. My "eagle's eyes" are adept at detecting anything from an improper use of "your" vs. "you're" ... to a missed period at the end of a sentence.
