Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have experience writing for my industry?

I have significant experience writing copy for the sectors of higher education, aging services, health, legal recruiting, and technology.

However, my depth and breadth of experience combined with my in-depth research process makes me capable of writing for almost any industry. In other words, I’m a quick study!

If you…

  • Are having trouble putting your company’s message into words

  • Are short on time and need a trusted writing partner (yesterday)

  • Have had less than stellar experiences with freelance copywriters in the past

… let’s talk! I’d love to help you in any way I can.

Do I have to pay any money up front?

As is standard practice for most freelance copywriters, I do require a 50% deposit based on the total project fee. This can be paid via check or credit card (PayPal). I also require a signed letter of agreement (LOA) outlining the project terms that have been agreed upon.

Do you only work with clients in the Boston and Rhode Island areas?

Nope! While I love working with fellow New Englanders (it’s great to be able to meet up for coffee now and then), I currently work with clients all across the globe.

What about meetings? Well, email and the good ‘ol telephone still work great for discussions. But the COVID-19 pandemic brought virtual meetings mainstream. It’s now incredibly easy to collaborate face to face via Zoom, Slack, and Teams.

I have a tight deadline to meet. Can you start on my copywriting project right away?

I value all of my clients. Every time I "sign on the dotted line", it's a personal commitment to put my best foot forward and exceed all of your expectations.

However, it’s a rare occasion that I am able to start on a project immediately. This is because I typically have several client projects going at any given time. My ability to meet your deadline will depend on how busy I am when we make contact and the size of your project. I can tell you this much: you’ll receive a firm delivery date for your project. This is something I’ll provide to you once you sign our letter of agreement and pay the deposit, and we’ve nailed down the project scope.

My suggestion is this: shoot me an e-mail or text as soon as you get an inkling you'll be wanting to hire a freelance copywriter. With plenty of "cushion", I'll be more likely to be able to take on your project and accommodate your timeframe without issue.

What are your fees? what do they include?

No two marketing projects are alike. For that reason, I typically determine my copywriting fees on a per-project basis. Just provide me the details of your next project, and I'll give you a personalized quote that's tailored to your needs.

My freelance copywriting fees include research, telephone discussions, copywriting, and up to 2 rounds of copy revisions. For on-site, face-to-face meetings in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, I generally charge an additional, per-hour rate for my time.

What if I don't need copywriting "from scratch" ... what if I just need a makeover of the copy I already have?

I determine all copywriting rates on a case-by-case basis. If you simply need a "polishing" of your current copy, I'm more than happy to accommodate you by adjusting my copywriting rates to reflect the actual amount of editing required. I will need to see your working draft before providing a price.

Do I own the rights to the copy you’ve written for my business?

Once your project fee has been made in full, you own the rights to all work created for you. However, it is possible I will ask for the right to use your project in hard copy and electronic form in my client portfolio. This is of course up for discussion. Please let me know if you have concerns regarding confidentiality.

Why don’t you have copy samples on your site?

I consider all work I've done for clients confidential. If you'd like to see samples of my freelance copywriting, I am more than happy to provide them upon request. Additionally, I’ve been writing copy professionally for more than 17 years. That means I have a lot of work under my belt! Just let me know the type of copywriting you're interested in and I’ll gladly put some samples together.

My budget is tight. Can you provide me with cheap copywriting services?

I understand all businesses have budgets, some which leave little room for negotiation. But at the same time, the old adage holds true: you get what you pay for. Given the caliber of work I deliver and the many years of experience I bring to the table, I feel my copywriting fees are extremely reasonable and fair.

That said, I'm not the cheapest freelance copywriter on the block by any means. If budget is a concern, I'll certainly make every effort to tailor my services to your financial limitations (for example, providing editing services instead of from-scratch copy). But if you're looking for bargain-basement pricing, we're probably not a good fit.
